Bit of a dull chapter. I had been hoping for more emotional follow-up to Gandalf's death, but perhaps anything would have seemed dull after the last chapter.

I could never see this chapter as dull. The Fellowship enter Lothlorien for the first time and Lothlorien is one of the coolest places in Middle-Earth. After the darkness, fear and angst of the last chapter, there's just something especially magical about this beautiful, ageless elven land set apart from time and the rest of the world. Maybe that will become clearer in the next few chapters.

Don't worry Debbie, when you see the movie this Christmas you will be astounded by the beauty of Lothlorien. I have seen images of it and it is breathtaking.

Unfortunately, the movie coming out this Christmas is Movie I, not Movie II, so no Lothlorien until NEXT Christmas. :->

Eloise,
Lothlorien is in Movie I - it covers "The Fellowship of the Ring."

Eloise: book 2 is still part of 'The Fellowship of the Rings', so Lothlorien will actually be in this year's movie.... so there! ;)

This chapter is a bit dull after the last one, but I like the part where they find out how Frodo survived being skewered. "Here's a pretty hobbit-skin to wrap an elven-princeling in!" I think it shows a little more of the Fellowship's characters, especially Aragorn, who now has to lead the group.

I LOVE lothlorien! I want to go there! The Mallorns sound so neat, and Galadriel and Celeborn and everything... Bah, I LOVE Lothlorien!

I was hiking near an 80' waterfall and growing up from the canyon and soaring over my head was a huge tree with large limbs. It was covered in golden blossoms. I thought it must be something like Lothlorien, it was so beautiful.

I am addicted to this site...
I _loved_ Lothlorien, and it really brought home the sense of loss and the passage of ages. This really was the last chance; but still all that was great and good were vanishing..I used to walk home from the station hoping to find something similar to a Mallorn...and I fancy I did!

Thanks for the link Katarina (though it's at least three weeks later!)...This particular tree I was talking about - I found a line of them at uni, not v. tall but the bark is grey and the leaves a medium brown and they don't fall until the new leaves grow ?(I think)...

DULL?????? I'm sorry, but I'm blown away! Lothlorien is a VITAL chapter. After the horibble passage through Moria Tolkien knew to let his characters (and readers) breathe a bit before every last ounce of hope was drained from them. Also, I always found Lothlorien to be the saddest, most wonderful (if I REALLY must choose) place in Middle-earth. What a relief to come at last to the golden wood of Galadriel and Celeborn!

If we're talking golden-looking trees, you can't beat aspens in the fall. ^^ (Colorado native here...) I could picture Lothlorien like the mountains when the aspen leaves are golden...
