| The purpose of this FAQ is to provide answers to questions commonly asked by those in the filking community. Please note that my opinions may not reflect those of other filkers, which is why I've provided a comments area for every page (scroll to bottom). If you have trouble posting below or if you have suggestions for new topics, please e-mail me instead (remove spaces from address). This FAQ should *not* be regarded as being definitive, but only as a rough guide; I will be updating info over time based on posted comments/suggestions, so PLEASE do speak up if you have anything to add/correct. Wherever possible, I have also included links to other sources of related information. - Debbie |

I'm curious about filk but have never heard it. Where can I find recorded samples of filk online? - FilkArchive, created and maintained by Martin Gordon-Kerr. Currently UK-focussed but open to uploads from anywhere. - The Virtual Filksing. Service from Prometheus Music (but is no longer accepting uploads). - Filk MP3s and Audio Files on the Web by Maureen O'Brien. Also see the larger site, Darn Near All The Filk On The Web. - CDbaby (results of "filk" search) - Pegasus Awards page (see past and present nominees, winners) - Some filkers keep samples online. Please post other suggestions using the comment form at the bottom of this page. Also see the responses to this Dandelion Report LJ entry.

Posted by: Gwen Knighton at August 31, 2004 10:31 AMOK, if you'd like to hear some Puzzlebox samples, look here: http://www.puzzlebox.net/PuzzMusicSamples1.htm Samples of several songs from Echo's Children's first three CDs are at this link, or you can drill down to MP3s and lyrics from the Echo's Children website: http://www.echoschildren.org Posted by: Callie at August 31, 2004 03:45 PMhttp://www.surrdave.com Posted by: Dave Rood at August 31, 2004 08:06 PMYou can hear samples of Tom Jeffers and Dave Clement of Dandelion Wine at their website, as well as samples from Curraugh, their Celtic band with their buddy Al Thomson, in the Curraugh section of the website. Posted by: Beckett at August 31, 2004 08:10 PMErm, Dandelion Wine's website address is: http://www.dandelionwine.net. Thought my previous entry had gotten the url in, since it asked, but then it didn't show in the message itself. My apologies! Posted by: Beckett at August 31, 2004 08:13 PMJust commenting on the "UK focus" bit - that is not deliberate, but simply the result at the moment of the fact that 90% of the stuff on FilkArchive I have live recorded myself at the UK cons. We do have stuff uploaded from Canada and the US, but not that much at the moment. "Currently UK focussed but open to uploads from anywhere" might be closer. The new stuff going up tonight is German... Posted by: MartinGK at September 2, 2004 01:35 PM
