About Inkygirl
Inkygirl is my weblog for writers, mainly featuring my writing-related cartoons but also other posts of interest to freelance writers. For publishing industry and market info, please see my Market Watch column at Writersmarket.com.
For my comic archives and info about re-posting comics, please see see this page.
What happened to the job listings?
I no longer maintain a daily job listing section. Here's more info. Feel free to visit these job/market resources instead.
Will you mention my site?
If you'd like to recommend a site that you think writers would find useful or interesting, I'd love to hear about it. I may not check it out immediately, but I promise I will eventually. Please don't nag me, or I promise I won't. If I don't, it could be because:
- I don't like it as much as you do.
- I haven't gotten around to looking at it yet.
- I don't think it's appropriate for mentioning on Inkygirl for some reason. Sites that I'm unlikely to review: literary e-zines (unless they are paying markets), anything that costs money, personal homepages, books not related to business or craft of writing, writers' blogs that focus more on their personal lives than writing, contests with entry fees, writing jobs that don't pay (or pay in royalties, free copies of a book, etc.).
I also don't tend to list writers' blogs that have just recently launched...please wait until you have accumulated a reasonable amount of useful writing-related content before telling me to look at your site.
I reserve the right to make exceptions to the above. Please remember that this is still basically a personal weblog, so the sites I mention reflect my own interests and preferences, and are not meant to be a definitive list of The Best Sites For Writers.
My contact information is listed near the bottom of this page, under "How can I contact you?"
Is this another Inkspot?
No. It's meant to be of interest to writers who are online and does have the word "ink" in the title, but that's where the similarity ends. There is no e-mail newsletter, no message boards, no articles, no columnists, no massive collection of resource links.
Will you promote my writing event?
Unfortunately I lack the resources/time to promote this sort of thing on Inkygirl, sorry, unless it's for a very special cause and does not involve a fee.
Will you promote my writing contest?
As long as it doesn't charge an entry fee and pays cash prizes, sure.
Thanks for reviewing my site, but the URL has changed. Can you update the link?
Feel free to send me the updated link, but unfortunately I can't guarantee that I will update the link in my old review listing. I will do my best to mention the updated link in a new listing, however.
What's with the pictures?
These images are sometimes cartoons which may or may not be related to writing, photos I've taken, from my Doodle Collection (my Corel Painter experiments), or from my Flickr Photo collection. You can usually get a bigger version by clicking on the image.
I'm a freelance illustrator on the side, and I'm using this corner of Inkygirl as a fun place to post some of my favourite pieces as well as cartoons related to writing.
Can I re-post your cartoons on my site or publication?
Probably, but see this page first.
Can I pay you to run my advertisement?
No.
Can I pay you to write or draw something?
Of course. :-)
Who are you, anyway?
My name is Debbie Ridpath Ohi. I'm a freelance writer and illustrator based in Toronto and author of The Writer's Online Marketplace (Writer's Digest Books) and was the creator/editor-in-chief of Inkspot. You can find more information about me in my personal homespace or my workspace.
How can I contact you?
Please don't put me on your mailing list without my permission.
Be warned that if you write to me asking for advice about where to send your manuscript or particular jobs or markets or an archived job listing or how to get published or whether I've heard of (insert name of a publisher, editor, company) here, you will likely get a form letter in response. Sounds curmudgeonly, I know, but unfortunately I get a LOT of these kinds of requests and if I took the time to answer all of them, I would no time left for my own writing or other projects. Thanks for understanding.
If you found a writing job because of my blog, I'd love to hear about it. I also love getting postcards! If you're feeling kindly toward Inkygirl anytime, feel free to send one to me at: Debbie Ridpath Ohi 34 Eglinton Ave. W., POB 189 Toronto, ON Canada M4R 2H6
