Site administration

I'll be moving this site to a new server as well as switching from Movabletype to Wordpress over the next few weeks, so please excuse the "Under Construction" mess that may crop up. Thanks for your patience!

Scrivener released!

Literary feast

For Mac users: Woohoo, the official release version of Scrivener is now shipping! I've been trying out the Beta version for the past week and loving it. There are a number of different ways of using this software to work on writing projects, including nonfiction, screenwriting, and novel-writing.

You can see some screenshots here and get more info and support in the user forums. I posted one question and got several replies within hours, including a reply from the author of Scrivener. I like the fact that the author has been getting plenty of feedback from beta testers along the way, making tweaks as a result but being careful not to turn Scrivener into bloatware (with too many bells and whistles).

So far, I'm finding Scrivener easy to use, and I especially like the corkboard interface. Once I start expanding my notecards into prose, I'll likely start using the Outline/Edit modes.

Anyway, you can download a 30-day trial version to try for free. Cost for a license: US$34.99. I'll post a more detailed review after I've had a chance to thoroughly test out the release version. So far, though, I'm pretty happy.

Waiting for Scrivener

Oh my...my husband just told me about Scrivener, an outlining tool for writers, which will supposedly be released any day now. I've been trying a number of different outlining tools but haven't been really happy with any of them yet. My last experiment was with SuperNoteCard from Mindola, but it crashed horribly on me just before a deadline, and I had to recreate my notes from scratch since the back-up was trashed as well. I was not a happy camper. :-(

Right now, I'm using Mori from Hog Bay Software for outlining, but it would nice to have some extra functionality specifically for writers.

More on Scrivener when I've been able to get a copy and play with it.
