The Raw Story (www.rawstory.com), a freshly-minted news site seeking to be the liberal alternative to the Drudge Report, is seeking music writers from the NYC area. We've just launched our new Arts site, at arts.rawstory.com.
We're especially looking for those who are willing to check out avant-garde work and have a 'spicy,' literate writing style. College students, even those with minimal experience are encouraged to apply.
Correspondents would generally be asked to contribute one piece each week, and work on their own timetables. Completed articles would be in the neighborhood of 700-1000 words.
By looking at our site, you'll see just how deficient we are by way of arts reporting. We want to expand from a simply political niche to add a strong arts component as well, perhaps eventually expanding it to an independent arts front page.
Check us out on the web and email us if any of these positions pique your interest. We look forward to hearing from you!
Send us any samples of your work to the above address in the body of the email, but PLEASE don't send attachments.
Compensation: Based on experience

Antiques and collectibles writers
"We're looking for a few freelance writers to tackle fairly short features on trends in antiques and collectibles for a nationally distributed newsletter. Popular categories among our readers include glassware, porcelain, and pottery; vintage toys and collectibles; furniture; and folk art. You should really know the topics about which you're writing---or be able to "extract" the knowledge from experts (dealers, collectors, auction house reps). We like our writing lively and tight; space is always at a premium.
Typical features run 1,200 words; that word count includes a pair of sidebar boxes. We pay $150-$300 per feature package (including siders)."
