Advertorial copywriter
Sonoma County Guidebook is looking for a writer with persuasive flair, to interview approximately 75 small business owners, then write 250-word "advertorial" profiles of their businesses. The business owners are primarily non-glamorous, blue-collar tradespeople --not winemakers or restauranteurs.
We are looking for someone with a North Bay background, as well as proven ability to write tight, stylish, "human interest" profiles for a sophisticated readership. This is a short-term project which we estimate will take one/two people three to four months to complete, working full time.
Start date ASAP

Writer for Musical Show Needed
Description: I am a musician creating a show incorporating music from around the world. (I play violin, piano and sing. I have a band of three other musicians and two dancers). I need a writer to create a basic storyline to unify the ideas I already have. The underlying message is that the drive for mastery is found in all cultures and music. This mastery is achieved when one streches human limitations beyond what one might think is possible. The music of the show centers on violin playing starting with bluegrass and ranging through Irish fiddle, gypsy violin, Indian and Chinese violin, modern jazz, electric violin and classical violin, all peppered with vocal pieces, piano and dance.

Adventure Travel Writer
I'm looking for someone to write about five short blurbs about adventure travel everyday, and help manage the comments/community that forms around them. Each blurb is around 70-120 words.
If you're an adventure travel freak/fan/fanatic please email me and tell me your last three adventure trips and your dream trip.
The pay is not great, about $250-500 a month, but this is easy and fun work for someone who spends their time reading/dreaming/living adventure travel. I don't care where you're based, as long as you know your stuff and are very reliable.

New York City Transplantation essay contest
Doesn't seem to be an entry fee. 1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place: $25.
"New York City Transplantation
Winning authors will be awarded a cash prize (1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place: $25) and the opportunity to read their submissions at a venue to be announced.
Deadline: Midnight, July 16, 2004
Submissions should be emailed to contest@nynewcomer.net
Rules and guidelines
As we are an exceedingly open minded bunch, we have formed no specific rules about how you’re going to interpret the contest theme New York City Transplantation. If you can work it out, for instance, that your moving to New York tells the story of your job loss, family insanity, or the great love of your life, then be our guest. Then again, if you wish to reference specific New York history, places, clichés, expectations, and the world of “If you can make it there…” that’s fine too.
What do we really, really want?
Surprises. Tightly drawn, engaging, character-driven, plot-driven essays that tell your truth (not necessarily The Whole Truth) about either coming to New York, or your split from the city. Writing that’s as strong on the page as it is effective out loud, as winning essays will be performed in front of an audience.
Other things:
~ Essays must be original and previously unpublished.
~ We regret that we cannot allow simultaneous submissions.
~ Enter your essay in the body of an email addressed to contest@NYNewcomer.net.
~ Length: 1500 – 3000 words
~ Entrants must agree to read, or allow a proxy to read, winning submissions at a small performance space TBA
~ Winning essays will be published in NYNewcomer's Insights sections
~ Questions or comments should be emailed to contest@NYNewcomer.net"

Chlidren's publisher seeks manuscripts
NOTE added by Debbie June 22: A writer has informed me that although this was listed in Craiglist New York, the person responding from the hotmail address says that they are actually located in the UK. Also:
"Sendak Publishing is the newest division of West Asia Distribution, LLC.
This new division will be distributing only children's titles to North America, United Kingdom and Australia. The changing face of publishing has forced us to create this new division which will be able to react quickly to new market demands and get titles into stores and distributorships before our competitors. Unfortunately, we do not have a website as of yet and likely will not until we have a sufficient number of titles to promote."
Hm....Sounds a bit odd to me. I'd advise extreme caution before submitting to this market.
Sendak Children's Publishing House,Inc is announcing a second call for 2004 author submissions. We will be accepting 2 or 3 more titles this year.
Please send the text of your children's books embedded in your email response. Do not attach documents as they are difficult to track through our reviewal process.
If you already have illustrations you may include a hyperlink to a website where they may be viewed.

New Literary Publishing Webzine Needs Submissions
Published in New York covers the independent book and fiction magazine publishing scene in and around New York, through features, essays, publisher profiles, "how-I-did-it" articles, and news about innovations and technological advances that benefit small electronic and print presses. We are especially dedicated to reviewing novels and story collections of note in paperback or ebook format; we're also actively seeking submissions of book reviews and short fiction.
For guidelines and payment information, visit our website.
Following in the noble tradition of DIY that reached its zenith in the early (pre-Internet) 1990s, Published in New York is done on the fly, done for peanuts, done for love, rages against the machine, and is highly opinionated. We hope to be not only useful to both writers and publishers, but entertaining, provocative and fun.
Contents so far: Profiles of Soho Press, Seven Stories Press, The Bowery Poetry Club, Gorilla Magazine, and the Astoria-based literary journal, Pindeldyboz; publishing for PDAs; print-on-demand books; a poll on the Bertelsmann job website; and, in Odds & Ends, a running contest for unlimited giveaways of our 17-page ebook (a five-dollar value), Submit Online! 49 Web and Print Zines That Accept Online Submissions and Pay $5-2000 Per Story.
We're also pleased to continue offering our free 10-page ebook, Submit Online! 49 Web and Print Zines That Accept Online Submissions. To download this .pdf file, visit our website at http://www.publishedinnewyork.com.

Seeking off-beat tales of international bus travel for anthology
Looking for off-beat, funny, inspirational or tragic international bus travel stories of 750 to 4,000 words for a bus travel story anthology. Whether you're in Kathmandu or Cozumel, The bus is where it all happens. It's where you meet the people, hear the language and taste the culture for the price of a fare. Whether you glimpsed fear in the eyes of Rwandan refugees or played poker with Laotian nuns, we want to read your bus story. Make it funny, serious or off-beat, but make it true to the experience we've all shared from our seats on the bus. We pay one $500 editor’s choice per book plus $100 and two book copies for each published story. Multiple story submissions accepted. Publication summer 2005. Posted May 31st/2004.
