Teach Aspiring Writers Over the Phone

GetPublished is expanding our roster of teleclasses related to writing and getting published. Teleclasses are taught via telephone, like a conference call. Email review and student feedback exchange supplement this live presentation time. For an example of our flagship teleclass, the Book Proposal Boot Camp, see http://www.GetPublished.com/about_boot_camp.asp.

We are currently seeking proposals in the area of children's books, beginning novel-writing, genre fiction, erotica, screenwriting, articles, and short stories. If you have other brilliant ideas, don't let this list limit you.

Here are the non-negotiable qualifications:

- Teaching experience in the area being proposed
- Willingness and ability to help market the courses being proposed
- Reliable Internet and email access, and ability to communicate across platforms, handle attachments, etc.
- Leadership skills, the ability to facilitate group cohesion, inspire cooperation and create a fun learning environment
- Strong organizational and administrative skills to keep up with class details

And here are the ideal qualifications:

- Success stories/testimonials from published students
- Experience in publishing either as an editor at a publishing house or as a multiply-published author in the field being taught
- Contacts in the publishing world that you would be willing to use to help those students who are ready, get published
- Teleleader certification and listing ability on at least two major teleclass sites for free intro classes to promote their class. You can become certified as a teleleader to list classes on both teleclassinternational.com and teleclass.com through TeleclassInternational:
http://www.teleclassinternational.com/main2/training.html?aid=56

Division of Responsibility
The GetPublished teleclass instructor is responsible for designing, administering, tracking registration for and doing a portion of the marketing for each of her classes. GetPublished handles the financial end of registration, provides paid advertising, marketing and PR, an online class catalogue, and marketing support for instructors. We also provide basic teleclass training, which includes instruction on how to create an optimal course for teleclass format, as well as how to incorporate the contracts, student feedback structure and coaching elements that are the earmarks of GetPublished.

Instructors are responsible for placing at least one article on at least ten sites two months prior to course commencement, and teaching at least three unpaid introductory teleclasses, one or more of which may be an interview with the instructor. GetPublished will assist with this process. Instructors will be paid a percentage of the total enrollment fees. A class may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Though they may do so if they wish, instructors are not required to invest any money of their own in marketing the class. Instructors will be supported and guided in how to take advantage of the plentiful free advertising and marketing opportunities on the Internet.

Suggested Course Format:
3-week to 12-week teleclasses that meet once a week via conference call for 1-2 hours each meeting. Bridge lines (teleconference phone lines) provided by GetPublished. Students give each other feedback between classes, and send their rewritten assignments to the instructor, who comments on them in the next class. In the second half of the class, the entire class reviews a portion of each student's work. After the class terminates, the instructor reviews the students' final work one-on one. We have used this format consistently with the Book Proposal Boot Camp, but feel free to suggest other formats if you believe they would suit your material better, especially if based on experience. Courses will begin early in 2005, and new courses may be added on a rolling basis.

Pay:
The pay will be about half of tuition. We expect the classes to priced at about $40.00 per student hour, not including the one-on-one time at the end (which traditionally has been 90 minutes per student). So a fifteen hour class with three students (the minimum) would net the instructor roughly $900.00, while the same class with nine students (the maximum) would net her roughly $2700.00. As part of the class agreement, students may also elect to hire the instructor through GetPublished at an hourly rate, the instructor's portion of which would be either $45.00 per hour or $60.00 per hour, depending on her experience level. Students may elect to hire the instructor for extra help (provided she is willing) before, during or after class.

About Our Company:
GetPublished provides coaching, consulting, editing, ghostwriting, teleclasses and do-it-yourself products to aspiring and published authors.
Contact:  Jill Nagle
E-mail: Jill@GetPublished.com

To apply, for each course proposed please send

1) a three-paragraph (+/-) course description for each course proposed
2) A basic syllabus detailing what will be covered in the course
3) The course structure you expect, i.e., how many weeks, how long each meeting
4) An article you might use to market your class, if you have it (optional).
Please include your name and contact information on each page you send.

Please also send (just once) a cover letter naming all the courses you're proposing to teach, a bio, and resume, plus answers to the following questions on a separate page from your main cover letter:

1) How if at all does your approach to the subject matter distinguish itself from other similar classes/fit in with GetPublished's mission?
2) What if any is the url of your own website?
3) Do you have or would you be willing to create at least one article on your subject matter with which to market your class?
4) Do you have any experience or knowledge about marketing anything on the Internet? Do you think it would be easy, or difficult for you to place at least one article on at least ten sites?
5) Do you have a mailing list of your own? If so, how many are on it?
6) Would you be willing to offer a few free introductory teleclasses on your subject matter to interest potential students?
7) GetPublished aims to not only school writers in how to write for publication, but also to help them get published (or get their work sold, in the case of screenwriting). How would your background or approach fit in with this goal?
8) Besides teaching a class, which if any of the following services are you interested in providing/qualified to provide through GetPublished? Please see http://www.GetPublished.com/services.asp
9) With which if any companies do you currently have or plan to obtain teleleader certification?

Seeking Experienced Editor

I'm a small one woman operation who needs an e-book edited as well as a monthly ezine.

My style is casual, yet businesslike & I talk to my customers, not at them while still trying to engage them.

I'm seeking an experienced editor who is Reasonably Priced & has at least 1-2 yrs. editing experience. I'm looking for someone who can edit for my casual down to earth style. Please no stuffy conservatives.

Besides the obvious spelling & gramatical errors that need correcting, I am seeking someone who is really good at re-constructing flow by moving paragraphs around (if need be) & can also tell right away if one point has been repeated too many times. I'm not looking for someone to totally rewrite my every word or change my style unless some parts are really horrendous. : )

I currently work on Word Perfect 6.1, but you editing in Word is fine by me so long as you can open my WP documents.

As far as personality, I need someone who is down to earth, a nice respectful person & has a great sense of humour. Is also a seriously HARD worker, does what they say they will, has a great work ethic, works in a speedy manner, likes challenges, doesn't have to be Micro Managed or chased & is VERY HONEST. I need you to listen well plus be able to communicate both the positives & the negatives to me, so there is a constant positive flow of communication.

This is a short term contract starting almost immediately, so if you are too busy or are working full time somewhere else then this job isn't for you.

The ezines need to be edited around 1 hour per month & that will be ongoing.

There may be other e-books in the future that need to be edited & I'd like to build an ongoing trusting relationship.

I prefer someone in Toronto or the surrounding areas, but will consider someone with the right fit anywhere across North America if they can call me on the phone at least once every few days & can IM daily or every other day.

Please detail your experience, where you are located & rate expectations.

Thank you & I wish everyone all the best : )

Michelle
