Travel writer needed
We are at an early stage of getting a publication together for distribution on Canada's west coast. Our goal is to offer interesting insights and perspectives on provincial, national and international travel destinations for the purpose of encouraging people to explore the world around them. Our readership will consist of those whose travel styles vary from organised tours to backpacking trips.
We are looking for non-fiction travel stories containing up to 1000 words. Articles should have a central focus--such as your search for the perfect orchid in the forests of Peru--a strong narrative and sense of place, and include some history of the region. They must also contain travel tips, an idea of cost, and booking information. We are also interested in travel book and restaurant reviews. We are not very attracted to travelogues, academic-style writing, or simple lists of places to see in a given locale. We are especially interested in tales that contain adventure in far-flung areas of the planet.
Articles may be sent by email, must be unpublished, or at least be ones for which you hold the rights. A letter of query is not necessary. Photos may be sent as email attachments or by post with an SASE. After receiving your submission, it might take several months before we could confirm our intentions. Our landpost address is Travel Time, PO Box 5067, Station Terminal, Vancouver, BC, V6B 4A9.
Job location is Vancouver
Compensation: As our project is fledgling, we are--at this point--in a position to offer only modest compensation for articles chosen--likely between $25-$50.
