New literary magazine seeks short stories, pays $50 + sub + copies
Hi Debbie,
Please consider listing information about Lunch Hour Stories, a new
literary magazine launching this month from Lunch Hour Book Publications.
We are already scheduled to be listed in the 2007 print edition of Novel
and Short Story Writers Market.
Lunch Hour Stories are thin, easy to carry booklets that contain ONE short
story each. They are designed to slip easily into a purse or briefcase and
be read in less than sixty minutes. Lunch Hour Stories are published
approximately 16 times per year (about one issue every three weeks) and
mailed to paid subscribers. Free preview issues are currently available
upon request.
Lunch Hour Stories publishes fictional, mainstream and literary short
stories from authors all over the world; however, we try to give first
consideration to NEW and EMERGING authors, as well as authors who live in
the Pacific Northwest.
Lunch Hour Stories hosts an annual contest (going on now) with cash
prizes, AND we pay our authors in cash and copies.
For more information regarding subscriptions, submissions, and contests,
please go to our website at www.lunchhourstories.com.
I would be happy to provide more information if needed. Thank you!

Submissions
Lunch Hour Stories magazine is always seeking excellent short stories for publication.
Stories should be previously unpublished, fictional, mainstream or literary in nature (no children's, religious, genre, etc.), 4000-8000 words, and formatted in common manuscript format. Send one printed copy, along with complete contact information, a short synopsis of the story (100 words or less), a short writing and publishing history (100 words or less), and a letter-sized SASE with adequate postage for response to:
Submissions
Lunch Hour Stories
22833 Bothell-Everett Hwy
STE 102 - PMB 1117
Bothell, WA 98021-9366
Submissions are accepted at any time; however, the deadline for publication in any given year is June 30 of the previous year. No reading fee is required for regular submissions; however, if you are submitting your story prior to June 30 and would like to enter our annual short story contest, be sure to include a $10 reading fee and click HERE for full contest details.
Electronic Submissions
Because of the high cost of printing, Lunch Hour Stories does not accept electronic submissions via e-mail or disc unless the author resides outside the continental U.S. Authors who are selected for publication will be contacted and asked to submit an electronic version of their story (in Microsoft WORD).
Duplicate Submissions
Authors may submit more than one story at a time. Please include ALL requested materials with each submission.
Simultaneous Submissions
All stories must be previously unpublished. In addition, any story that has been submitted to, or is being considered by, another publisher, must be so noted in the cover letter. Please let us know if/when the story is selected for publication elsewhere.
Publishing Rights
By submitting a story to Lunch Hour Stories magazine, the author gives Lunch Hour Book Publications the right to print and distribute it, and to be the first publisher of the story anywhere in North America. All rights revert back to the author after publication, with certain limitations for the first year thereafter. Prior to publication, the author will be sent a publications agreement with full details.
Compensation
Lunch Hour Book Publications will compensate the author $50 for the right to publish their story. We will also provide him/her with ten (10) printed copies of their story (additional copies may be purchased for $2 each), and a free one-year subscription to Lunch Hour Stories magazine (a $22 value).
For more information, please contact the Lunch Hour Stories editor at editor@lunchhourbooks.com.

New baseball magazine seeks nonfiction and fiction submissions
For those of you who are baseball fans:
"Sandlot Media is launching a new quarterly publication in Summer 2006 that will celebrate the game of baseball while exploring its contributions to America history, culture and community. In addition to providing in- depth features on those who have shaped our culture and game, columns from a range of people that appreciate the sport, and outstanding photography and illustrations, this new magazine, entitled “108” (so named after the number of stitches in a baseball) will showcase riveting short fiction.
We’re looking for writers that are passionate for the game of baseball, and are offering another avenue for them to express your creativity and imagination. In every issue, 108 will publish 2-4 short stories and 5-7 non-fiction features, ranging in size between 2,000 and 7,000 words, and addressing a variety of themes that share the common backdrop of baseball. Ideally, we would like to offer a blend of short fiction created by both promising newcomers and respected authors. Our minimum rate for unsolicited pieces will be .50¢ per word for short fiction and .25¢ for nonfiction. Compensation would be determined after negotiation and Sandlot Media pays contributors upon acceptance, not after publication.
If you’d like a little more information about us, including our submission policies, see www.108mag.com."
A more detailed market listing will be posted in WritersMarket.com later this year.
