OUR NEW CD PROJECT!

Title: "Sushi and High Tea"
By: Urban Tapestry
Launched: Aug.28, 2003
Produced by: Dodeka Records

Sushi and High Tea is a selection of our favourite live tracks recorded when we were Guests of Honour at Didgeri-Douze (Feb/2000, UK), Conchord (Aug/2002, California), and Consonance (Mar/2001, California).

Playlist for Sushi and High Tea

Friendship Song (2.39)
Three-part a capella song about friendship (sort of :-)) by Debbie.

Waiting For Frodo (3.46)
By Debbie. Based on her comic strip, Waiting For Frodo.

Homecoming (5.32)
By Debbie, based on Ray Bradbury's short story, "The Rocket Man".

Another Story (3.16)
By Debbie & Allison. Debbie started this as a children's song, but then it grew into something else. Allison wrote the chorus.

Amanda (2.43)
By Jodi, based on a short story by Gordon Dickson. Our first song with just flute accompaniment.

Battle On! (3.45)
By Allison. Fun Xena girl-group song.

My Jalapeno Man (3.22)
By Debbie. A spicy food song. ;-)

Dark Is Rising (3.36)
Cover of the Julia Ecklar song, based on the "Dark Is Rising" series by Susan Cooper. Thanks to Julia and Susan Cooper for their permission to include this song on our CD!

Monday (3.22)
By Allison. About missing friends after a convention weekend.

The Truth Is Out There (2.20)
By Debbie. X-Files song.

I Am Stardust (4.17)
By Lloyd Landa. Thanks to Karen Linsley for her permission for us to include this song on our CD. Lloyd, you are deeply missed.

Star Sisters (2.35)
By Jean Stevenson. Guest musician: Joey Shoji.

Neurotic Love Song (3.24)
By Debbie. Text version originally appeared in the TV Guide's Tribute to Star Trek some years ago.

Sushi and High Tea info

Jodi has put together a great page of info about the CD, including MP3 clips of each song.

Augh, found out about another typo that Allison & Jodi & I missed in the CD liner notes. The recording engineer for Didgeri Douze was Chris Croughton, not Gerry Tyra, and the recording engineer for ConChord was Gerry Tyra, not Chris Croughton. They are both being very gracious about it. Gerry, for example, has told us, "When you're beating your head against the monitor, the blood tends to cover up the typos. At least that's the excuse that I use at work when someone finds a bug in my code." :-)

Humble apologies and thanks to both Gerry and Chris!

10th anniversary online scrapbook

Urban Tapestry has been together for TEN YEARS this year. Allison's put together a wonderful online scrapbook; please do come by for a visit! Also feel free to share a fun memory or two in the message board. And if you have a funny or embarrassing story about Allison or Jodi to tell, all the better! (shhh, don't tell them I said that)

Torcon launch a success!

Woohoo, our CD is now officially available! :-) Both White Hart and Minstrel’s Glen sold out of "Sushi and High Tea" last Saturday at Torcon; I didn't find out until an hour before the dealers' room closed on Sunday. Went back to my apartment and brought another carton for White Hart - apparently they sold five more by the time the room closed (i.e. in the fifteen minutes after I brought the extra CDs!). Very cool. For those who won't be attending a filk convention soon and would like to order online, I'll be posting a link once we get things set up properly. To all those who have helped in the making of this CD: THANK YOU!! Allison, Jodi and I were very happy with how it turned out. :-)

CD update

From Allison:

Things continue to go well as we work on our new live CD, "Sushi and High Tea". Chris Conway has completed mastering the CD and Beckett Gladney is working on the cover art. Debbie is working on the liner notes with the assistance of Bill Roper at Dodeka Records. We will be having a debut hearing of the CD at Urban Tapestry's 10th anniversary party at ConCertino in July. "Sushi and High Tea" will debut for sale at TorCon, the World Science Fiction Convention being held in Toronto this August. Thanks to everyone for their questions and their interest in our music!
